Terms of Service — Jyotim
By downloading or using Jyotim ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who we are
Jyotim is operated from New Delhi, India. Our registered address is A-19, Ground Floor, FIEE Complex, Okhla Industrial Area Phase-2, Suite No. 1142, New Delhi, Delhi 110020, India.
Contact: support@jyotim.com
2. What Jyotim offers
Jyotim is a guided devotional practice app. It provides:
- Audio-guided pujas led by a virtual priest, with visual storytelling
- Mantra jaap and paath (recitation) practice, with read-along text
- A personal Vedic astrology (kundali) report and an upaay plan, based on birth details you provide — this is part of Jyotim Select, our paid subscription (Section 8). A free preview shows how many findings your kundali has before you decide to subscribe.
- Reminders for your chosen practices
The pujas, mantra jaap, paath and reminders are free to use, supported by advertising. The kundali report and the ad-free experience are what the subscription adds.
The app is a devotional and cultural aid. It does not perform a puja on your behalf, and it does not replace a priest, a temple, or personal religious guidance.
3. Eligibility
Jyotim is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account and use the app, and you confirm this when you sign in. The kundali reading checks age a second time, from the birth date you enter, and declines anyone under 18.
4. About the astrological content
Vedic astrology is a traditional belief system. The kundali readings, dosha findings, severity indications, and remedies (upaay) offered in the app are presented in that spirit — as tradition, for reflection and devotional practice.
They are not, and must not be treated as, professional advice. Specifically:
- Not medical advice. Nothing in the app diagnoses, treats, or predicts any health condition, fertility outcome, or pregnancy. Consult a qualified doctor.
- Not financial or legal advice. Nothing in the app is a recommendation about money, business, investment, employment, or litigation. Consult a qualified professional.
- Not a prediction or a guarantee. We do not promise that any outcome — marriage, a child, a job, business growth, or relief from a dosha — will or will not occur. Remedies are traditional practices offered for devotional benefit, not a mechanism with a promised result.
You remain solely responsible for decisions you make about your own life. If you are distressed, or facing a serious medical, financial or legal situation, please seek qualified human help.
5. Your account and your data
You sign in to Jyotim with your phone number. You are responsible for keeping access to that number secure and for activity that happens through your account.
How we handle your personal data — and the fact that your birth details never leave your phone — is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
6. Content and intellectual property
6.1 What we own — and what we do not
The content in the app — the priest audio, music, artwork, illustrations, written text, translations, and the software itself — is owned by us or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright. Jyotim, our name and our flame mark are our trademarks.
Sacred texts, mantras and stotras are part of a shared religious heritage, and we claim no ownership of them. They belong to everyone. Nothing in these terms restricts your use of those texts from any other source. What we own is our particular recordings, arrangements, translations, artwork and presentation of them.
6.2 The licence we give you
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable licence to use the app's content for your own devotional practice. No ownership passes to you, and any right not expressly granted here remains with us.
Where the app lets you download content for offline use, that download stays part of this licence: it is for use inside the app on your own device, and it may become unavailable if your subscription ends or if the content is withdrawn.
Your own material stays with you. Your kundali report, your upaay plan and your practice record are generated for you from what you entered, and they live on your phone. You can open them again whenever you like, inside the app, for as long as the app is installed.
Screenshots are switched off on some screens. On the puja, kundali, mantra and paath screens the app blocks screenshots and screen recording. This protects the recordings and artwork, and it also protects your own birth details from anything else running on your phone. It is not a fault of your device.
6.3 What you may not do
The app's content stays inside the app. You may not distribute any of Jyotim's audio, artwork, illustrations or written content outside the Jyotim app — on another app, a website, a social or messaging platform, a recording, or in print. The only sharing permitted is what a Jyotim feature itself does, in the way it does it.
You may not:
- Copy, extract, record, re-record, screen-record, redistribute, publish, broadcast, perform or sell the app's audio, artwork or written content
- Circumvent, remove or disable any encryption, digital-rights or access-control protection on downloaded content, or reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app
- Use automated means — bots, scrapers, crawlers, scripts or data-extraction tools — to access, copy or collect the content, or to place unusual load on our systems
- Use the content to train, fine-tune, test, benchmark or develop any machine-learning or artificial intelligence model, or to assemble a dataset for that purpose
- Use the content to build a competing product or a derivative collection
- Use the content commercially in any form without our written permission
Breaching this section is the clearest reason we would suspend or end your access under Section 11.
6.4 If you believe we have infringed your rights
We take this seriously, particularly around music, artwork and translations. If you believe anything in the app infringes your copyright, write to support@jyotim.com with "Copyright" in the subject line, telling us what the work is, where it appears in the app, that you own the right or act for the owner, how to contact you, and that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorised. We will look into it promptly, and remove or replace anything we should not be using.
6.5 Ideas you send us
If you send us a suggestion for the app, we may use it without any obligation to you, and we will not treat it as confidential. Please do not send us anything you want kept secret, or anything that belongs to someone else.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not use the app to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, to attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or content, or to disrupt the service for others.
8. Subscriptions, payments and cancellation
Jyotim is free to download, and the devotional features — guided pujas, mantra jaap, paath, and shubh tithi reminders — can be used without paying. The free version is supported by advertising.
Jyotim Select is our paid subscription. It removes advertising and unlocks the paid features listed on the purchase screen, including the detailed kundali report and its upaay plan.
8.1 Plans, prices, and introductory offers
The plans available to you, their prices including applicable taxes, the billing period, and any introductory offer are shown on the purchase screen before you confirm. The price shown at the moment you subscribe is the price that applies to that purchase. Plans and prices may change over time.
We may offer a short introductory period at a reduced price. Where we do, the purchase screen states what you pay today, what you will be charged when that period ends, and on which date. An introductory offer is available once per user and is not offered a second time.
8.2 How you pay, and automatic renewal
Depending on how you subscribe, your payment is handled by one of the following:
- Google Play — the purchase and its renewals are handled by Google, under Google Play's payment terms.
- Our payment partner — you set up a recurring payment mandate, such as UPI AutoPay or a card mandate, authorising the subscription amount to be collected each billing period.
Subscriptions renew automatically. On either route, the subscription price is charged at the start of each new billing period, without any further action by you, until you cancel. Where the rules governing your payment mandate require it, you will be notified before a recurring amount is debited.
8.3 Cancelling
You can cancel at any time, and cancelling stops all future charges.
- Subscribed through Google Play: cancel in the Play Store under Subscriptions, or through the link in the app's Settings.
- Subscribed through a payment mandate: cancel in the app under Settings. If you also want to remove the standing mandate itself, you can cancel it in your bank or UPI app, under AutoPay or mandates.
If you cancel a paid billing period, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and are then moved back to the free, ad-supported version. If you cancel during an introductory period, access to the paid features ends immediately — that period exists so you can try the paid features before the first full charge, so cancelling it ends the arrangement rather than extending it.
If a renewal payment fails, we may attempt it again. Until a payment succeeds, the paid features may be suspended and you may be moved back to the free version.
8.4 Refunds
Purchases made through Google Play follow Google Play's refund policy, and refund requests for those purchases are made to Google.
For purchases made through our payment partner: if you have been charged in error — a renewal after you cancelled, or a duplicate debit — write to support@jyotim.com within 7 days of the charge with the payment reference. We will investigate, and where the claim is correct we will refund to the original payment method, normally within 5–7 working days of approval. We do not otherwise refund a billing period that has been used.
8.5 Price changes
If we change the price of a plan you are subscribed to, we will tell you before the new price applies to you, and you will be able to cancel before it is charged.
8.6 Gifts and referrals
The app may let you gift a friend a short ad-free period by sharing a link. When your friend installs Jyotim through your link and completes their first day of puja, you may receive an ad-free period as a thank-you. The exact gift and reward are shown in the app at the time.
Rewards are credited automatically once the conditions shown in the app are met. They have no cash value, cannot be transferred, exchanged or refunded, and are removed if a gift was obtained by creating duplicate accounts or through any other misuse. We may change or end the gift programme at any time; rewards already credited are honoured.
Nothing in this section takes away any right you have as a consumer under Indian law.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The app is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data, or opportunity.
- Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the app is limited to the total amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10. Service availability and changes
We may add, change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may update the app's content. We aim to give notice of significant changes, but the app may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons beyond our control.
Some content is downloaded over the internet. You are responsible for your own data charges.
11. Ending these terms
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms — in particular the content restrictions in Section 6.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at New Delhi shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any non-excludable rights you have as a consumer under Indian law.
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining parts stay in full effect.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and where the change is significant we will tell you inside the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
